Line Section SOC-2A, which extends approximately 1.45 miles between Illinois Avenue and Garza Avenue, was part of DART’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) starter system. This was the first section to be constructed in the median of a major thoroughfare (Lancaster Road), thus requiring major reconstruction of the roadway within the limits of the project. Additional features included two above-grade street crossings and a passenger station with a new parking lot at Kiest Boulevard.
As the Prime Design Consultant, Dikita was responsible for civil, structural, geotechnical, survey, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, utilities, architectural, and landscape architectural design services for DART’s SOC-2A line section project. To complement our efforts and enhance our capabilities, we selected nine (9) subconsultants to be part of the team.
At the Kiest Station, Dikita worked with the DART staff, the Section Design Artist, and the local Art Committee, through a series of workshops in an effort to solicit input from the local community. Our team prepared plans, details, and schedules for support facilities for the Traction Electrification equipment. During the bid phase, we were responsible for the design and preparation of addenda to the bid documents, and assisting DART with bid evaluation. Throughout the construction period, the Dikita team performed the review of shop drawings, prepared design changes, reviewed construction change orders, evaluated value engineering proposals, and attended coordination meetings as required.
Other responsibilities included assisting DART in their coordination activities with governmental, public and private agencies, and design consultants for system-wide elements and joint-use facilities. Dikita also provided equipment interfacing for signal & communications, ticket vending equipment, electrical lighting and signage, and all conduits.
