The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL)
The The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL ) project is a key component of a $3.5B multi-component mega project, consisting of seven distinct components within the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center District Master Plan.
TBAAL’s scope includes both exterior and interior upgrades to modernize and enhance the 250K sqr ft. facility while ensuring seamless integration with the surrounding components of the master plan.
Relocation of the Main Entrance: The entrance will be repositioned to the side of the facility, necessitating street and survey design.
Harmonized Exterior Design: Exterior improvements will align architecturally with adjacent facilities to maintain continuity across all project components.
Lobby Expansion: Enhancing the size and functionality of the lobby area.
ADA Accessibility: Incorporating designs to ensure compliance with ADA standards.
Upgraded Theaters and Auditoriums:
A 1,750-seat theater for large performances.
A 150-seat auditorium for smaller events.
Production Infrastructure Upgrades: Modernization of facilities to meet current production standards.
Education and Performance Support Areas: Creation or improvement of spaces for educational activities and performance support.
Orchestra Pit Enhancements: Upgrades to accommodate professional-grade orchestral performances.
